2002 Scotland v Wales International
Willow Springs Fishery, Llanelli, Wales : 20/21 July

Scotland nearly achieved a memorable away victory in a close and tense encounter with Wales on their flagship Willow Springs fishery at Llanelli. Only 3 points out of 137 separated the teams, in truth there was nothing in it and the odd ounce between catches was crucial. Congratulations are due to both sides for an exciting yet enjoyable contest, but Wales took the honours by 134.5 penalty points to Scotland's 137.5.
Scotland can take a lot of positives from the event but mainly the 3 successful debuts of Barry Morgan, Brian Lynn and Scott Heaps fishing their first International match. Barry was 2nd individual overall after two excellent performances; Brian won the first day match with a great 15lb catch of skimmer bream; and though Scott was drawn on very hard pegs each day, he fished well and showed his courage by taking two last gasp skimmers to save his blank on the 2nd day.
The good news is that both teams and management agreed the fixture was well worth repeating and it should become an annual favourite with Scotland next to act as hosts. The friendly nature of the event is just what both managers need to allow more anglers some International experience.
The Scotland team would like to thank their hosts, The Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers and the Welsh team, for their hospitality. Special thanks are due to the organisers, Welsh Manager Eric Humphries and Fed. Secretary Robin Darker. The visitors will remember their warm welcome and the friendly rivalry for a long time to come.
